Blog 17: What is Vitamin K and what is Vitamin K3?
Have you seen ads for Vit K3? What is it? Do you need it?
It is a synthetic version of Vitamin K. Vitamin K is made in your body by bacteria in your colon or large intestine. Vit K helps blood to clot properly and helps make strong bones. The dose needed daily is less than one mg (75-90 micrograms).
Natural sources of Vitamin K are green leafy vegetables and fatty fish like salmon.
Do you need Vitamin K3? Not unless you have a problem with your colon or your diet that makes you bleed easily, or if your doctor advises you.
Ask your doctor about it if you tend to bleed easily, or have unexplained weakness of your bones.
